Collage
Collage has been an important approach to making art (and music, poetry, literature, etc) for a long time.
In this unit, explore making images by combing elements (parts of images, textures, typeface, writing, drawing, fabrics, painting) to create cohesive and expressive works.
How can you make it personal to your observations, ideas, feelings?
Note how the samples create a kind of environment and narrative, rather than a simple catalog of topics. Note, too, that it is helpful to have a unifying image or element that ties everything together in a piece. See Assignment details for technical tips. Works below are by Robert Rauschenberg, Martha Rosler, and other artists.

Close Ups low Depth of Field
Samples of close-ups with a low depth of field allowing the background to blur (can be achieved in focus filters editing, too). Helps the subject pop and the background provides a contemplative environment. Note contrast of values between subject and background (also helps to isolate the subject). Typically more poetic and interpretive in black and white.
